It’s a pretty fantastic thing that developer Grezzo has done with this classic, they’ve kept Ocarina of Time just as I remember it. In it’s heyday Ocarina blew my mind, this was the same series that I’ve developed a budding obsession with now in the third dimension. As Navi floats through Kokiri forest into Link’s (or in my case “Bartman’s”) tree I was going bat shit nuts with anticipation and excitement. This was a milestone in gaming in my mind, in my formative years this marked the beginning of my adulthood and the game’s themes resonated with me on a psychological level.

Replaying on emulators and Virtual Console didn’t do it justice. The epic I remembered seemed dusty, hidden beneath the muddy textures and painfully choppy frame rate. Now, although it’s a fraction of the size, this latest release is the game I remembered so long ago revived. I’m reliving the anticipation and excitement as I explore Hyrule all over again. I’ll be posting some sketches that I’ve drawn along the way thanks to the 3DS’ semi-inhibitive sketching program (almost akin to MSpaint). Hope you enjoy them! (Keep in mind the 3DS outputs these at a pathetically tiny resolution…)
I read somewhere that they toned Navi down in this release. So far she’s nagged me non-stop about bullshit I already know since I’ve started. No wonder Link’s gone so long without getting his own fairy.
Throwing pots around while people just watch absently as you rob them blind, leaving the room and doing it again; classic Zelda.
The 3D is a nice touch but I can see myself turning it down, if not off, to save for some battery time.
In the next post: breaking pots all around Hyrule, hero of time style
